Is offline marketing a sustainable alternative to digital ads?

Table of Contents

Be it on or offline, marketing can have an impact on the environment. As such, our goal is to implement sustainability into our operations, as we believe in contributing to a better future in marketing and the wider community.

But how are we doing this? And how can you be sure that we’re serious about sustainability?

Let’s delve into the world of offline marketing and discover innovative ways to promote green practices while effectively reaching customers!

The unsustainable world of digital marketing

Digital marketing has emerged as a dominant force in business, revolutionizing how companies connect with their target audience. However, while digital marketing offers a wealth of benefits, it is not exempt from sustainability challenges – in fact, digital marketing isn’t as green as you may think.

Relying heavily on energy-intensive infrastructure, including data centers, servers, and networks, digital marketing contributes to a significant carbon footprint. According to one carbon calculator, the average online marketing campaign emits about 5.4 tons of carbon dioxide – approximately half the total annual impact of an inhabitant of the UK.

One impression alone generates an average of a gram of carbon waste. Consequently, the amount of carbon emissions produced by the internet is estimated to be equal to that of the aviation industry!

Offline marketing can be eco-friendly

Offline marketing isn’t perfect – it has a long way to go regarding sustainability – but it offers a somewhat eco-friendly alternative to digitization.

But what about paper production?

Approximately a quarter of people believe that paper production is a significant cause of global greenhouse gas emissions – this is a myth, especially in Europe, where the pulp and paper industry is the biggest single industrial user of renewable energy!

Okay, how about printing?

There are now multiple sustainable printing options on the market. Carbon-neutral printing, for example, balances the carbon dioxide emissions it generates with the amount removed from the atmosphere.

Litter?

Multiple governments or local councils have implemented flyering restrictions to slash the litter generated by flyer distribution. Moreover, thanks to technology, flyer distribution can be highly targeted. This means that promotional materials go to a relevant audience, thereby reducing waste.

Sustainability at Oppizi & our plans for a green future

At Oppizi, we prioritize sustainability and wholeheartedly believe that in order to create a healthy future, we all need to do our bit. We have implemented a wealth of policies to ensure that we adhere to green production as best as possible, and we will continue to pursue eco-friendly solutions for both the production and distribution of flyers.

Indeed, Oppizi is home to a successful tree-planting initiative, culminating in over 9,400 trees being planted. Additionally, we use FSC-certified products and use recycled materials (such as paper) where possible. We also use carbon-neutral printing for every campaign and work with local producers to reduce emissions.
